AZ/Mexico Immigration Conflict, Birthday, and other news…

May 20th, 2010

Some have asked about how the controversial AZ immigration law is affecting us here in Imuris. I respond below, but first some other news from Timothy House…

angel
Angel (age 9) has a smile that “tells” what TH is about

What does Angel’s smile say to you? To me, his smile shows confidence, contentment, love, courage, independence, adventure and risk-taking. These are all qualities we value at TH. That is why I picked his picture out of hundreds to be the one included in the heading of our next “Prayer Letter.”

I just sent the prayer letter off to the printers. It should arrive in your mailbox soon if you are on our mailing list. We only send 2 of these mailings per year, even though ACTION recommends that we send them monthly. On the back of the letter you will find the colorful picture collage that we traditionally send. You can hang up it somewhere as a reminder to pray for us (sorry if this sounds selfish of us, but we really do depend on your prayers!).

By the way, Chloe reminded me that she took this winning picture of Angel!

The Immigration Conflict
The controversy is a concern for us as we have to deal with the anger that Mexicans have as a result of what they see as discrimination. I personally don’t see anything wrong with the AZ law, but unfortunately people are distorting the law in order to take political advantage. They were talking about closing the border, so that no one could shop in AZ. That was a concern because Chloe had traveled to CA and we needed to go to the airport to pick her up.

Also, an American was killed a half hour south of us, and so the US State Dept has issued a warning saying that Americans should not travel in this part of Mexico at night. Someone is setting up unofficial road blocks, possibly to steal vehicles, or who knows what. So we are thankful that we can trust in the Lord for our safety. We also feel the prayers of those we love. As a result, we are not afraid.

The children sing for Mother’s Day

May 15th, 2010

Mother’s day is a week long celebration in Mexico. (Unfortunately, Father’s Day isn’t celebrated at all, but that is another story.) The following video shows the TH elementary school children singing for their Moms, Adela, Margarita and Joy.

Many of the TH children participate in the town’s soccer league. Last season they took first place. This year they won 3rd place. Edgar (third from right) earned a trophy for MVP.

Pastor Fito baptizes one of 4 converts in our pool

The pastor from a local Baptist church asked to use our pool for baptisms. His church, like most, does not have a baptismal. It was a blessing to witness more souls make their public testimony of faith in Christ.

Tony applies stucco to the walls of what will be a classroom

With construction funds running out, we thought we might have to postpone the school expansion project. But last month we received a $5,000 donation for the school computer lab. We thank the Lord for this much needed funding!

Progress on the 2nd story

Our plan is to just enclose the second story and then stop work there for now. We don’t plan to finish the inside until later. We’d like to see if the older boys can do part of the work themselves.

The next construction project will be the expansion of the school, Lord willing.

Irvin and Uriel are settling into their new home. Irvin is doing well in school and it looks like he will be able to catch up fairly quickly. It will take more time for Uriel, who has a speech impediment and learning disability.
